I AM LOUD:

SCOTLAND’S PREMIERE SPOKEN WORD PRODUCTION ORGANISATION

Founded in 2014 as monthly event series Loud Poets, we pushed the envelope of live poetry performance with innovative show formats, live music, and an anarchic approach that took the Scottish poetry scene by storm. Since then, we’ve toured our dynamic style across the UK and Europe, while remaining firmly committed to developing the Scottish spoken word scene and providing supported, high-calibre performance opportunities.

Our annual cross-national Slam Series offers the biggest prize in UK poetry slams, £3,000, and in 2023 won the Saboteur Award for Best UK Regular Spoken Word Event and the Creative Edinburgh Collaboration Award for our work with the Edinburgh International Book Festival. We also host monthly showcases at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh featuring top voices from the UK and Scottish scenes, with live musical accompaniment. Since 2014 our Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows have been a top destination for spoken word at the festival, featuring the best performance poets internationally in dynamic, innovative events.

In addition to our live events, we are a high-calibre digital production house with extensive experience in event recording, bespoke digital content creation, and podcast production. Our YouTube channel hosts the world’s most extensive archive of Scottish spoken word poetry, with over 750 videos including poem performances, full shows, podcasts, cinepoems, workshops, documentaries, and more. We’ve digitally produced festivals including StAnza: Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, Winchester Poetry Festival, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, and created bespoke poetry films for clients including Glenfiddich, Premier Sports, and the John Muir Trust. We’re immensely proud that since the establishment of the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem - Performed, our videos have won both times; follow the links to watch Bohdan Piasecki and Leyla Josephine’s fantastic winning performances.

As a CIC, our core aim is to support, develop, and make more sustainable the Scottish spoken word scene. Scotland has some of the best performance poets in the world, consistently ranking in the top of international slam competitions, yet there are few professional-level opportunities for them to hone their craft and develop their careers. Through our open mics, showcases, slams, workshops, and digital programming, we work to provide these opportunities and support poets at all levels of their creative journeys. We also regularly partner with local cultural organisations across Scotland to develop opportunities and events outwith the central belt, to improve access and empower poets across the country. Our education and mentoring programme includes our online community the Loud Poets Writing Club, free digital workshops and podcasts on our YouTube channel, and in-person workshops across Scotland and the UK with writers of all ages and experience levels.

We’re proud to support, empower, and showcase the best of Scottish and UK poetry. If you’re interested in learning more, please check out the FAQs on the Contact page of our website, or get in touch directly at hello@iamloud.co; we’d love to hear from you!
