‘Fantastic day and workshop. The guys have been insightful and fantastic. It has been very well organised, informative and 'hands-on'. The different techniques, voices and experiences presented have opened my mind about spoken word. Now I consider poetry in a new light.’

—Participant in our Jan 2023 Spoken Word Workshop at the Scottish Storytelling Centre

‘The event was incredibly fun and satisfying. It offered something new and useful to aid creativity and writing skills. The workshop was immersive and well crafted, and the poets were always ready to help whenever I got stuck, offering ideas and advice.’

—Participant in our April 2023 Masterclass with Aberdeen Performing Arts

WORKSHOPS

The Loud Poets team has years of experience running creative writing and performance workshops for a wide range of ages, experience levels, and interests.

We have delivered in-person and online workshops for local and international schools (including Institut Le Rosey and the Scottish Universities International Summer School), cultural organisations (including Aberdeen Performing Arts), and festivals (including StAnza and Paisley Book Festival).

We tailor our workshops to the interests and skills levels of each group we work with, and cover skills from basic poetry composition to building confidence onstage to technical stagecraft. Workshops are available for all ages and experience levels. If you’re interested in arranging workshops, developmental programming, or talks for your school or organisation, please get in touch.

‘We were really lucky to have Katie and Kevin deliver a brilliant introductory session on Performance Poetry as part of our Find Your Light day for young adults. The artists created such a welcoming and inclusive space, and it was wonderful to see all participants so engaged - particularly those who have shared in the past that they're not naturally comfortable with public speaking! The prompts were perfect for kickstarting the writing process and the whole activity felt perfectly curated to create an accessible environment for participants to find their voice and express themselves in a way that felt right for them. We would work with I Am Loud again in a heartbeat!’

LOUD POETS: RETURN TO FORM

Interested in learning more about the basics of poetry and poetic form - for free? The Loud Poets Return to Form online workshop series features 18 full workshops: four on the fundamentals of poetic form and 16 step-by-step tutorials on how to write in forms including the sonnet, villanelle, sestina, and more. Check them out here.

‘I've been watching few episodes of this series and I find it enlightening. It explains how poems work with enough details to understand what's at play in the composition of a poem but the explanations are clear, structured, all the terms are defined and it's a pleasure to follow the path each video lays out on a given theme. For someone who knows nothing about poetry, this is like a translation guide.’
